The Champs Libres is, above all, meant to be a Forum' to help our contemporaries to understand the world in which they live and in the building of which they all have a part to play.
The wide range of activities on offer enables the Champs Libres to appeal to the greatest number of people and thereby to place all these different types of users at the very heart of its project. It is ready to take up the challenge of cultural democratisation by relying on its accessibility - as much geographical as architectural - and by making full use of the complementarity of its constituent institutions.
The Champs Libres' aim is to give meaning, to show that, by becoming a lasting reality, Rennes' slogan of Vivre en Intelligence (Living intelligently), thus plays its part in developing the identity and influence of the Rennes Métropole area.
And if Bretagne est univers (Brittany - a world in microcosm), as the Brittany Museum declares, quoting the Breton poet, Saint-Pol-Roux, the visitors, readers, and audiences must thus expect to bump into all the world's faces and views at the Champs Libres.
